Inpatient physical rehabilitation
Inpatient physical rehabilitation provides intense, daily treatment and physician services for people who need 24-hour help while they recover from surgery or conditions such as strokes.
Our rehabilitation specialties
Our skilled rehabilitation specialists work closely with you, your doctors and caregivers to provide the best possible integrated treatment plan. We offer inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services, including physical, speech and occupational therapies. We also offer outpatient therapy for wound care and specialized rehabilitation services for children.
Physical therapy
Our physical therapists work with you and your doctors and caregivers to restore mobility and decrease pain. Physical therapy may include exercise, pain management and vestibular and balance retraining. Physical therapy is often used to help with orthopedic conditions and neurological conditions as well as individuals recovering from surgical treatments.
Speech therapy
Our speech pathologists evaluate, diagnose and treat speech, cognitive, communication and swallowing disorders. We help you recover your speaking, eating, listening, reading, thinking and writing skills. We also assist people who are recovering from surgery.
Occupational therapy
Occupational therapists guide and instruct individuals with physical and developmental issues to help them learn how to live independently. Skilled treatment helps you relearn activities of daily living through the use of adaptive equipment, sensorimotor skill training and exercise.
Occupational therapy often benefits those with neurological conditions and injuries as well as hand and upper extremity injuries and disorders.
Swing bed
Recovering from surgery or an injury can sometimes be challenging for patients and their families. While your doctor may feel you are ready to leave a hospital's acute care setting, you may not be quite ready to go home. Swing bed, recovery and rehabilitation, provides quality care close to home.
As a rural, critical access hospital participating in Medicare, Lafayette Regional Health Center (LRHC) is able to participate in a swing bed agreement through CMS, which offers patients a unit for post-acute hospital skilled rehabilitation care. Swing bed services are available for Medicare patients needing rehabilitative therapy services following orthopedic surgery, IV therapy, stroke rehabilitative patients, COPD and a few other conditions, depending on diagnoses.
The team at Lafayette Regional Health Center understands these recovery situations and is prepared to help. Our hospital offers a comprehensive range of recovery and rehabilitation — more commonly known as “swing bed” — services to help patients return to an active and productive lifestyle after an event such as surgery, injury or hospitalization for an illness.
Our swing bed program offers:
- 24/7 hospital-grade nursing care
- Daily visits by LRHC staff members who will work with your doctor to monitor your progress
- A strong level of communication and partnership with physicians
- Nurses with specialized training in infusion, IV therapy, wound care, rehab and all other aspects of swing bed care
- Consultation by a certified licensed dietician
- The swing bed team at LRHC is committed to the highest level of care for the friends and neighbors we serve to return them to home as soon as possible.
